Under: Running
well, to be honest it was more of a walk and a run. I need to build up stamina and to be honest, I'm hard pushed if I have to run for the bus at the moment.
I planned to walk briskly for 90 seconds, run for 90 seconds, walk briskly for 90 seconds and so on.
I found it pretty hard going. Mainly I felt it in my back. Even after just a few metres of running/jogging, my lower back felt tight and was quite painful. I tried stretching and that provided some relief for a short while, but as soon as I started running again I could feel my back straining.
By the end (and truthfully, I was only really out for 20 minutes or so) it even hurt when I walked back from the park.
Now that I've been sitting down for a few minutes, it feels like the pain has gone away, which is the root of the problem, I reckon: my body has become so used to a sedentary lifestyle, anything else hurts!
Well, at least I've started - now the only thing for it is to keep going. I won't try running for a couple of days, but I will have a go at the same technique later this week. Hopefully, I'll be able to build up the amount of time and distance I can keep running.
I'm a generally happy-go-lucky British guy who has travelled quite a bit and lived in couple of European countries before moving back to London ten years ago.
All of a sudden I find that I weigh over 18 stone and that running for the bus has become an effort.
It's time to fix that.
